One Crazy and Controversial Film Fest Culminates @ Cannes!

The off the wall and controversial 64th annual Cannes Film Festival comes to its end.
What a strange year for the bigest and most glamorous film festival in the world!

From an Invisible Director winning the Palme d'Or award, to the best Actress award going to a film whose Director was expelled from Cannes for revealing he's a Nazi, to the best Actor award going to a Silent Film, Sleeping Beauty comes to life. Almodovar goes Frankenstein....and to top it off, recent queen of controversy Lady Gaga surprised Cannes with a hot performance on the French Riviera!

Terrence Malick's metaphysical epic "Tree Of Life" takes the top honor at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival. Despite all the mixed reviews and the controversy behind Malick's lack of appearances at any Cannes public event, this visually stunning film, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, managed to win the highly coveted Palme d'Or.  The Tree of Life opens in U.S. Theaters May 27th.

Kirsten Dunst wins Best Actress award for her performance in the end-of-the-world film 'Melancholia' directed by Lars Von Tiers who was expelled form Cannes for his horrible sense of humor in joking that he was a Nazi who understood and was sympathetic with Hitler!

Jean Dujardin received the Best Actor award for his interpretation of a 1920's Hollywood silent film star whose career is destroyed when speaking films take over. 'The Artist' is a silent film made with old black-and-white silent film techniques.

Australian author turned director, Julia Leigh's  film, Sleeping Beauty on the other hand, didn't impress much. This film is an erotically disturbing modern-day version of the classic fairy tale. Sleeping beauty is about a female escort that is hired by wealthy older gentlemen to share private and intimate time with them, and so the beauty sleeps with grandpa. This film does not yet have U.S. distribution.

And from Sleeping Beauty to Frankenstein, Pedro Almodovar shocks Cannes with his first Horror film 'La Piel Que Habito", where Antonio Banderas plays a plastic surgeon out for revenge.  Its a modern Frankenstein tale with  plastic surgery scientific breakthroughs and sexual identity change. It's extravagantly Almodovar!  Although It didn't receive any awards at Cannes, it was sure one of the most talked about films of the festival.

Lady Gaga made a surprise performance to thousands of  screaming fans along the French RIviera singing  her controversial song 'Judas'.  Janet Jackson, Gween Stefani, Kanye West and Jaime Foxx were also among the big music names making appearances in Cannes.
